Sara Hillery is the principal of Sara Hillery Interior Design, a full-service design firm based in Richmond with projects ranging throughout the southeast and Texas. Sara’s approach incorporates one-of-a-kind pieces that are both decorative and functional. With a focus on honoring each client’s personal history, she transforms interior spaces architecturally and decoratively.
From historic renovations to new construction, Sara believes that interior design is about the art of storytelling- and she likes to consider design as a way for individuals to ultimately celebrate and embrace the stories of their families, traditions, and heritage.
Sara strives to intentionally incorporate meaningful history and functionality into each space that she creates while packing a playful punch that remains timeless. Sara was recently recognized by House Beautiful as one of its Next Wave designers and her current projects have been featured in Veranda, The Wall Street Journal, Southern Home, and Southern Living.
Additional industry accolades include her nomination as a two-time finalist in the HGTV Designer of the Year Awards as well as her participation in the Lenox Hill Neighborhood House Spring Gala, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Southeastern Showhouse, Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas, Rooms with a View, and the New York Botanical Garden’s Orchid Dinner.

Colorful interiors that visually breathe!
Vintage source - Chairish! So much to choose from with their online options. My backup is always a local estate sale, you never know what treasures you will find!
What is your go-to outfit?
A cotton summer dress with a great belt when it's warm, and white jeans year round when it's cold with a striped oxford shirt.
